Measuring Cortisol Accurately
A single morning blood cortisol level tells you very little. Cortisol follows a diurnal rhythm — highest in the morning, lowest at night. A proper assessment requires measuring cortisol at multiple time points (AM and PM), ideally alongside DHEA-S (its counter-regulatory hormone). Salivary cortisol testing captures the free, biologically active fraction and allows for multi-point sampling.
